The Leslie County Conservation District was established September 6, 1951. The District was organized for the purpose of administering an overall program that would provide for the best possible use of all the county's soil and water resources. They would go on to control, abate and prevent soil erosion, flood damage, and sedimentation. They would also preserve wildlife and forest lands. They conserved all types of natural resources which would promote the health, safety and general welfare of the District, the Commonwealth and the Nation. The District is a sub-division of State Government governed by a seven member elected board of supervisors, composed of landowners, producers, and business persons, whose powers and duties are set forth in the Soil Conservation Act of 1940 and amendments. The Board is responsible for entering into a working agreement with Federal, State, County and other organizations who can render assistance in developing and carrying out a sound program of work that meets its conservation objectives.
