Programs Available

As programs become available, we will post them here.

1.  The Leslie County Conservation District will be giving away trees again this year.  Call Connie Sizemore at the Conservation Office to find out about the dates of distribution.  You can also sign up for seeds.  We will put an ad in the newspaper when we will be giving them out.Connie is currently busy writing grants to try and get additional funding into our district.  Funds are down this year and we have few programs available.  As they become available, we will post them here.

2.    For people who have a farm number, or who are willing to get a farm number the following is available:
High Tunnel- this is similar to a large green house, but you can actually use a tractor inside it.  You plant your plants directly in the earth, inside the structure.  You must have had a garden of some sort in the place where you want to place the High Tunnel.  If you are interested in this program, contact Connie Sizemore at the Leslie County Conservation Office.  She will put you in touch with the people who can help you to get this program.  You will need to do this as soon as possible in order to meet the deadlines.

Another program she told us about is the Clear Cutting program.  If you have at least ten acres, and would like to have at least ten acres either clear cut or included in another program you can contact Connie Sizemore and she will refer you to someone who works with the NCRS and can help you apply for the program.  Again, you will need to do this very soon.

The NCRS also has organic gardening programs where they assist you in getting your gardens certified organic.  Again, contact Connie Sizemore if you are interested.

3.  If you are interested in gardening and setting up wildlife plots on your land, and getting assistance in doing this, it would be worth your time to sign up for a farm number.  Contact Connie Sizemore and she can refer you to the proper place to begin the process for getting your farm number.

Please let us know if you have any questions.
